This fine quality solid brass betel nut box dates was handcrafted in Mindanao, Philippines circa 1860-1910. These boxes were uses to store the areca nut (or betel nut) which would be wrapped in a betel leaf with lime paste and tobacco for chewing. These boxes often served as a way to impress by showing off ones wealth.

Condition:
The piece is in good vintage condition with age appropriate wear. One of the long rectangular boxes on top has a hinge that does not have the pin in it. It opens fine, but the lid does hang when left open. This was used as a desk organizer by the previous owner. Supplies and rubber mats will be included.Please see photos for more details and don't forget to use the zoom feature!
